At some point, you may be encouraged to consider partnering up with another business. This can happen and should be considered for several reasons: expansion, diversification, finances or market share to name just a few.
Why you decide on a business partnership is important but how you go about creating one is what determines if a partnership with work for all parties.
This week on the Small Biz Big Shots, Steve Smith with be interviewing Janet Martin- attorney at law. Janet is a wealth of knowledge in the area of business partnerships and will help answer many critical questions about what you need to consider and what you should watch out for when deciding to partner up with another business professional.
Janet Martin has been a practicing lawyer since 1984. She graduated from Loyola Law School and has a degree in Business and Finance. She worked as a staff attorney for “Corporate America” in the banking and business franchise industries for over 2 decades. Upon going on her own in 2007, during the height of the banking crisis and real estate housing collapse, she focused her practice on providing creative legal solutions to financially stressed individuals and business, including negotiating early terminations of contractual obligations, debt counseling and pre-bankruptcy planning. Janet decided to focus on small business owners helping owners set up their business structures, independent contractor and service agreements, client contracts, partnership agreements, and trademark applications, in addition to providing creative legal solutions for problem situations. Janet is married with 2 daughters, practices law in Mission Viejo, coaching and advising in the areas of Business, Franchise, Real Estate and Bankruptcy.
